Abel Leavenworth

Abel Leavenworth as the Headmaster of Castleton Normal School

Collection range from the over 2000 scanned images of civil war letters kept by the family of Abel Leaveworth. Leavenworth ended the War as a Captain in Co. K 9th Regiment of the Vermont Volunteers. Leavenworth led the line in the skirmish to take the Confederate Capitol of Richmond and was appointed assistant provost marshal after its fall. Other collections include Cabinet Cards of Bennington, a selection of photographs taken by Lestor Nichols, items from a family in Southern Vermont, finding aids from the Landgrove Historical Society, and information about the Manchester Vermont Historical Society.
